    Coaching philosophy v4.2.1.7a

    Being an update on an earlier post — philosophy v4.2.1.7.

    • I believe that the coach has a responsibility to design & develop appropriately challenging learning environments. Because
      • “kids today” don’t necessarily experience this often enough;
      • hence never learn how to navigate (challenging) learning environments.

    Possibly no longer a “philosophy” (even if it ever was).

    “a theory or attitude that acts as a guiding principle for behaviour”

    Any philosophers out there?

  • Golden Runner — a modified bowling game

    This week’s ECB Coaches Association “Practice Time” email highlighted a bowling game with a twist — bowlers have to compete against a team of runners, to restrict their scoring by hitting the stumps when they bowl.

    I do like bowling “drills” with a bit of added jeopardy — see “knock ‘em down”, for example — but I also like to spend as much time as possible on cricket-like activities. What follows are a couple of variations on the ECB CA game.

  • Talking about the CLA — do we need to mind our language?

    Last week I attended Playing by the Rules: Using the CLA to your Advantage, a fascinating event hosted by Alex Lascu and Alex Sarama.

    Part workshop, part therapy session, covering a range of issues with adopting a constraints-led approach (CLA) in coaching.

    The conversation in the room was very interesting, but I wonder if some of the language was overly complicated.

    Perhaps we need a new way of talking about the CLA?
